Just before Carson was born, Jason began climbing out of his crib. The trouble was that he knew how to climb over the rail, but the dismount proved trickier and generally resulted in him crashing to the floor. We discussed, at the time, putting him in a regular bed, but it seemed like a lot of change at once with Carson's imminent arrival.
Recently Jason has been attempting to climb out of the crib with increased frequency, but we always caught him before he could swing his second leg over the rail. Who says two college educated parents aren't smarter than a toddler? Well, apparently Jason. On Saturday, we found him sitting on his floor playing, having stealthily mastered the dismount, when we thought he was napping. So, we removed the crib and most of his toys from his room and he slept on his mattress on the floor for two nights prior to the arrival of his new bed.
That almost sounds punitive...making him sleep on the floor, but I actually think it was a good way to transition him to the bed as the first night he kept falling off the mattress.
