Carson has a malformation of the head marked by an
oblique slant to the main axis of the skull.* It is really noticeable if you look at the back of his head, and so our pediatrician sent us to a specialist who recommended the helmet. He has to wear it for 23 hours a day for three months. At the end of the three months the specialist believes the malformation will no longer be noticeable to the eye.
Carson did really well today. He wore it for approximately six hours, but he didn't have to go to bed with it. Tomorrow he will wear it all day except for naps and bed. After that he will wear it all the time, with one hour of parole daily.
I didn't expect the helmet would look so stormtrooper-ish. We ordered white so that we could decorate it ourselves. It may take us a few days before we're ready to paint it. Before we got it I had considered gluing two horns to the sides and going with the Viking look, but now that I've seen it I'm leaning more towards a nose piece and a feathered crest and shooting for the "THIS IS SPARTA!" baby helmet.

I don't think I'd have a smile as big as Carson!
Make certain you use lead free paint when decorating and I think the Carson Palmer/Bengal connection should play a part in the design. Of course a ginkgo leaf on the front wouldn't be bad!

I opt for an Elmo motif -- big eyes and nose and red all over!
He's the cutest.
